Transforming a 1950s Oil Circuit Breaker
The challenge
Our client had a system on their network with some very old OCBs that were starting to develop issues. With no ability to install a new switchboard due to access restrictions, and no spares for the mechanisms owing to the fact that the original OCB manufacturer had closed some 40+ years prior, they approached us to see what we could do to help.
The results
We had a breaker shipped to our premises, and with our suite of CB testing equipment, set about figuring out the issue. Once the issues were found, new parts were designed, manufactured and installed in our workshop. For good measure, and whilst the unit was out for service anyway, we gave the whole breaker a good service, and ran a typical end of line suite of tests to verify not only the changes made here, but that the breaker was fit to be put back in to service and continue its service for many years to come.
