The directors, Trevor Marshall and David Roberts with Alf Hodkin (retired but still acting as a consultant for Elmecon), formed ELMECON Ltd in May 1990.

The original directive of the company was to help advance the switchgear technology of third world countries. Over the following years, Elmecon has increased its customer base to predominantly include many of the large technically advanced switchgear manufacturers around the world.
